چکیده

We report the discovery of a transient jet in the supersoft X-ray source RX J0925.7-4758. The jet was observed in the Hα line during a single night in June 1997 and had disappeared one day later. RX J0925.7-4758 is the third supersoft source to exhibit collimated outflows. The peak jet velocity of 5,200 km s−1, strongly argues in favour of a white dwarf in RX J0925.7-4758. Simple modelling of the jet profile suggests half opening angles in the range of 17◦ to 41◦ although the outflow may be narrower if part of the observed spread in velocity is intrinsic to the jet. X-ray spectral modelling (Ebisawa et al. 1996; Hartmann & Heise 1997) indicates distances of the order of 10 kpc or more with the consequence that RX J0925.7-4758 may be the most optically luminous supersoft source known. The overall observational picture points to a massive white dwarf which may be close to the Chandrasekhar limit.

On the secondary star of the galactic supersoft X-ray source RX J0925.7−4758 and Doppler tomography of the emission lines

We carried out optical spectroscopic observations of the galactic supersoft X-ray source RX J0925.7−4758. The relatively long orbital period among supersoft X-ray sources was confirmed. The nature of the secondary star is discussed using its invisibility in the optical spectrum. Under the hypothesis of a non-eclipsing white dwarf, we derived an A–G giant secondary with an inclination angle of 5...

UvA - DARE ( Digital Academic Repository ) XMM - Newton observations of MR Vel / RX J 0925 . 7 - 4758

We report on XMM-Newton observations of the galactic supersoft X-ray source RX J0925.7-4758. The RGS spectrum exhibits a wealth of spectral features from iron and oxygen. XMM-Newton data confirm the finding of previous Chandra HETGS/MEG observations that NLTE models of hot white dwarf atmospheres fail to represent the complex spectrum. There are clear evidences for P Cygni profiles with wind ve...

Jets from the galactic supersoft X - ray source RX J 0019 . 8 + 2156

We present evidence from high resolution optical spectra for the presence of bipolar jets in the bright super soft X-ray source RX J0019.8+2156, the second such discovered case after RX J0513.9-6951. The jets seem to appear and disappear over a time scale of several months. No jet precession is observed. From the velocity separation of the emission lines produced by the jets a lower limit of ∼ ...

Six Supersoft X-ray Binaries: System Parameters and Twin-jet Outflows

A comparison is made between the properties of CAL 83, CAL 87, RX J0513.9−6951, 1E 0035.4−7230 (SMC 13), RX J0019.8+2156, and RX J0925.7−4758, all supersoft X-ray binaries. Spectra with the same resolution and wavelength coverage of these systems are compared and contrasted. Some new photometry is also presented. The equivalent widths of the principal emission lines of H and He II differ by mor...
